This time I'd like to write about my only SquidVids lens so far. I created it more like an experiment to test out this lens format rather than planning it from the beginning, but it turned out pretty good. A SquidVids lens is essentially a collection of YouTube videos, which makes it one of the easiest lenses to build. Of course, nothing's stopping you from adding a lot of other content (I didn't though).
The lens is related to my MMORPG gaming hobby; it's a collection of Age of Conan videos on YouTube. It's one of a number of lenses I have created about this game, actually. You can find various trailers, presentations, tutorials, interviews and so on; anything interesting that's related to Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures game and available on YouTube. I update it every now and then with new videos, so it has grown pretty big, but when the game is released, I'll probably have to get rid of most of the outdated content. Perhaps list best fan-made videos instead of pre-release interviews and such?
Like always, here are the full stats of the lens:
Created: Oct 2007
Type: SquidVids
Content: YouTube videos
Main traffic sources: Google
Lifetime visits: 1,264
Lensrank: #3,812
Royalties:
Like mentioned before, it's the only SquidVids lens I created despite how easy it is (just add a lot of relevant YouTube vids and you're good to go). The reason I mostly ignored SquidVids is because I didn't think you could monetize such lenses well. After all, it's only a collection of videos, something you can find on YouTube by yourself. On the other hand, this lens managed to surprise me recently, getting around 100 weekly Google traffic now that the game is closer to release, and even a single Amazon sale last month. Perhaps a collection of best YouTube videos is something people are looking for? I'll definitely have to try creating some more SquidVids lenses soon and see how they fare.
