Glam ads gone from Squidoo

It seems that Glam.com ads have been removed from Squidoo lenses, and a good old 300x250 Google graphic ad is displayed instead. This might or might not have something to do with the news I mentioned in my last post about Glam lowering publisher payments (it probably does). I haven't been able to find any official news on this yet, but I'm sure Squidoo HQ will choose what's best (and most profitable) for the lensmasters.

Truth be told, I like the Google ads much better. I was willing to put up with that pink, glittery nonsense Glam sometimes put on my lenses, as long as it meant higher payouts. If Glam no longer provides profit to Squidoo, then good riddance! Google ads, for one, are much more targeted. For example, on my MMORPG lenses I see some nice ads for EVE Online and Angels Online that will surely get a lot clicks from the visitors:

As for how this will affect the revenue from the ad pool, it remains to be seen. I don't think there will be a big fall in the payment tiers though. Glam ads seemed to be like a short-lived experiment, after all.

Yep, it's all great until you have a lens that sells things on eBay and before people can even scroll down, they see that ad on the right showing them stuff to buy on eBay. Not sure what's worse - inappropriate ads or overly targeted ones that take the traffic you're trying to attract.

How do you make money with Squidoo? Can you direct me to a specific post or posts to explain? Thank you!

I'd say Squidoo FAQ covers it pretty well:
http://www.squidoo.com/pages/faq

But to put it simply... You can make money with Squidoo in 2 ways.

a) All lenses get a share from the ad pool, depending on their 'lensrank'. That in turn depends on how often your lens is visited, rated, and such. This income ranges from a few cents to about $8/month for a single lens.

b) All sales you make through Squidoo affiliate modules bring you commissions. You can also add your own affiliate links to your lenses and make money this way.

If you need any more help, just ask... And there's also SquidU.com forums available :)

Really, I'm glad to see the Glam ads gone. They were not relevant and I did not see any increase in pay outs from their presence. The Google ads have more to do with the lenses topic even if they may steal traffic. Hopefully that stolen traffic will lead to greater adsense earnings though.

Actually, it seems Glam ads are back. I posted this too fast, hehe.

Can't say I'm too happy about this though. On my game lenses, instead of the very targeted Google ads (you can see a screenshot in the post) there's a Glam ad displayed that advertises "Celebs, Fashion, Prizes, Health, Beauty, Food"... Hardly related to my content! :(

I don't think I've actually seen any Glam ads... maybe I'm missing something? Or maybe I've just become too successful at tuning ads out.

I believe they are not shown on charity lenses.
