I got this month's payout, and it's... shall we say, not too high: $26.92. Ah well, at least 3rd party affiliate programs that I used on my Squidoo lenses brought in a little bit more. First of all, here are the Squidoo payment tiers for Semptember:
High LR: $11.27 (wow!)
Medium LR: $1.76
Low LR: $0.08
$11.27 for top-tier lenses is a very pleasant surprise, as it's almost double compared last month; I hope this lasts.
As usual, here's the payout screenshot:
Also, it seems there were some changes made in the way lensrank for the payments is calculated. This forum post from Gil explains it very well:
From now on (and including today's payout), Adsense and Glam revenue is distributed to lenses based on their average LensRank throughout the month. It's pretty difficult to calculate the exact number, though, because we have to compare the average LensRank to that of other lenses in order to get a perfectly ordered system.Way to go! I never liked the fact that payouts were based on the lensrank as it was on the last day of the month - it was possible to cheat the system by doing your best to boost the rank the day before. The payment pool distribution will be much more fair now, I'm sure.
The averaged LensRank system does a great job of ensuring that gaming and other anomalies have minimal effect on payouts, but unfortunately it makes it next to impossible to estimate your earnings ahead of time.
By "gaming", we mean people who show up on the last day of the month trying to boost their lensrank for one day, and getting an unfairly high share of the PayRank pool that way. Now we're paying out according to the average LensRank for the whole month, which is a much more accurate way of determining how well your lens did that month and how much it contributed to the AdSense and Glam pools.
