No doubt some of you have already heard about this tool and perhaps even used it for keyword research. Personally I've discovered it only recently since it's hidden deep in Google search options. I'm talking of course about the new (sort of) Wonder Wheel tool that Google came up with.
Here's how you access it. First of all, head to google.com (the Wonder Wheel is not available for other languages yet) and make a search - I'll use a popular marketing niche "dog training" in this example. Then click the "Show options" link located right under the search form to see the additional stuff that you can do with your search. You can, for example, refine your search to only find results from a specific date range, look for reviews, forums or videos and see related searches or the timeline. You will also find a link to the Wonder Wheel there:
Now, if you have the Flash Player plugin installed, you will see the Wonder Wheel. The wheel tool contains the keyword you searched for in the center of the "wheel" and related keywords, or sub-categories all around it. In this example we can see Google thinks dog leash training, how to train your dog, puppy training and other keyphrases are related to our search term. If you click on any of the sub-categories, a new wheel opens with yet another set of related keywords, and you will notice that a search is made automatically on the right side of the page:
The Wonder Wheel will help you discover niches within niches, or micro niches (call them whatever you want, really) - and, as we all know, Squidoo lenses are great when you want to target a very small niche by optimizing for long tail keywords. What's even better, the searches that are made automatically every time you click a sub-category will allow you to check the competition and other sites targeting those keywords without leaving the page. Use Wonder Wheel to find new keyphrases to promote, build a lens around them, and get some relevant backlinks - how does that sound?

Yes, it is a great handy tool -- I have wondered about the naming of the tool. A wheel perhaps because you can dial in to suggestions?
Nice to finally get some good free advice.
People usually pop this in an ebook and try to sell it.
That's interesting. I use Google a lot, but wasn't familiar with that tool. Thanks.
